Sophos XG firewall: SSL VPN failed to join drive error

Issue:

When user is trying to connect to SSL VPN, he is getting this error

Thu May 31 12:01:14 2018 MANAGEMENT: >STATE:1527760874,TCP_CONNECT,,,,,,
Thu May 31 12:01:24 2018 TCP: connect to [AF_INET]10.255.0.1:8443 failed, will try again in 5 seconds: Das System hat versucht, einem Verzeichnis, das sich auf einem mit JOIN zugeordneten Laufwerk befindet, ein Laufwerk mit SUBST zuzuordnen.

Resolution-1:

This error will normally arise when client is unable to connect to SSL VPN server.

Please look into below screenshot

VPN settings
VPN settings

Once login to the firewall, under VPN show VPN settings

In the override hostname field mention the IP address of the WAN IP of firewall.

After entering the IP address, save the settings and redownload the SSL VPN client again.

Try to reconnect it should work.

Resolution-2:

In case if you are still getting the same error, it might indicate SSL VPN client traffic is not reaching the firewall.

Log in to the command line interface (CLI) and select 4: Device Console. Run the following command, which uses the default SSL VPN port 8443, to analyse the output.

You can use this article to login to the firewall using SSH:

https://support.sophos.com/support/s/article/KB-000038697?language=en_US

Then type this command “tcpdump “port 8443”

In case if you were not able to observe any output in the console, then your ISP or your next hop is blocking port 8443.

You need to check with them.
